Historic Moment: President Franklin D. Roosevelt in Harrodsburg

On November 16, 1934, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the 32nd President of the United States, visited Harrodsburg, Kentucky to dedicate the newly completed George Rogers Clark Federal Monument at what is now Old Fort Harrod State Park. Standing on Kentucky bluegrass before a crowd estimated at more than 40,000 people, President Roosevelt honored the pioneering spirit of early settlers and celebrated Kentucky’s vital role in the nation’s westward expansion. Today, a commemorative stone marks the exact spot where he stood during this historic dedication, preserving the moment for future generations.
