Support the Friends of Fort Harrod
The Friends of Fort Harrod is the only citizen‑led organization officially sanctioned to support and enhance Old Fort Harrod State Park, Kentucky’s first permanent settlement site. This nonprofit 501(c)(3) group is dedicated to preserving the park’s history, maintaining its structures and grounds, and enriching the visitor experience for generations to come.
Their mission is clear: to improve, maintain, and protect Fort Harrod State Park, the heritage it represents, and the community it serves.
Why Your Support Matters
As a public charitable organization, Friends of Fort Harrod relies on community generosity to:
- Restore and preserve historic features, including the James Harrod Amphitheater—an effort that earned the group the 2012 Mercer Chamber of Commerce “Non‑Profit of the Year” Award.
- Sponsor community clean‑ups and beautification efforts such as the annual “Pick Up the Park” volunteer event.
- Expand educational programming, living‑history demonstrations, and park‑wide events enjoyed by thousands of visitors each year.
- Provide direct financial support for critical upkeep of the buildings, grounds, and interpretive experiences across the state park.
Every contribution—large or small—goes directly toward improving Fort Harrod and preserving Kentucky’s earliest frontier story.
